CONCERT #1

Join us as we launch our 34th-Season to explore the past and present of chamber music. This concert will feature selections from classical European folk music, and imaginative interpretations of works by American jazz legend Thelonius Monk played on a pipa -- sometimes called a Chinese lute.

This wide-ranging concert will culminate with the Dallas-Fort Worth premiere of Tan Dun's hypnotic "Ghost Opera" for string quartet and pipa. Hear the voices of water, metal, paper, stone and imagination. These works together will showcase the versatility of chamber music.

Richard Lin - Violin

Taiwanese-American violinist Richard Lin is the newly crowned Gold Medalist of the 10th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis which took place in September of 2018. In addition to the Gold Medal, Richard captured three Special Prizes for his performances of Milstein’s Paganiniana in the Preliminaries, Kreisler’s Tambourin chinois in the Classical Finals and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy in the Finals.

Highlights of Mr. Lin’s 2018-2019 season include recitals in Chicago, La Jolla and throughout Indiana, including Indianapolis, New Harmony and Bloomington. He will make debut concerto appearances with the North Carolina and Muncie symphonies in the United States and will...more
