About the Artist

Having been praised as both classical and jazz saxophonist, Jean Kiffer is known as one of the most versatile and accomplished performers in his native France, a country that has been a front runner of elaborating saxophone into a classical music genre as the youngest instrument accepted into symphonic orchestra.

As a classical performer Jean has collaborated with greatest musicians of 20th and 21st centuries such as Dmitri Kitajenko, Luciano Berio, Reinhold Friedrich, sisters Labeque, Ernest Ludwig Petrowski, Conrad Bauer, Fazil Say, and Damien Prudhomme performing with Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, Saarbrucken and Stuttgart Symphonies among many others.

Native of Metz, France, Jean graduated with highest honors from Metz Conservatoire under tutelage of legendary saxophonist Hubert Prati, a pupil of Marcel Mule, continuing his postgraduate studies in Paris with Daniel Deffayet.

In 1982 Jean founded a saxophone quartet “Sax4”. The quartet immediately established itself as one of the most successful performing groups in France enjoying an active performing schedule throughout Europe. Over the years “Sax4” has released 5 CD recordings endearing highest acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

As a jazz musician Jean has been featured in numerous groups and recordings, most notably the “Afrodisax”, GSO Jazz Orchestra, and “Masterpiece Big Band”. Alongside his intensive performing schedule Jean also teaches in Metz, where he resides in a 15th century house. Among all of his life accomplishments Jean is the most proud of raising three amazing children Martin, Ambre, and Chloé.
